A man in a department store in Boulder, Colorado, 45 miles from Denver, shot dead 10 people on Monday.

City police chief Maris Harold reported at an evening press conference that the suspect, who was injured, had been detained and needed treatment. The name of the suspect was not disclosed, nor was the perpetrator’s motive or details of the attack.

CNN news television, citing a police source, reported that the attacker fired an AR-15 machine gun during the attack.

Boulder police posted on their Twitter afternoon on Monday afternoon that an armed attack was taking place at the local King Soopers supermarket, with authorities marching with great force to the scene. The scene and the hearing of witnesses in the case, which county prosecutor Michael Dougherty called a tragedy and nightmare, is still ongoing.
