Fallen Hollywood filmmaker Harvey Weinstein is charged in Britain with a two-way humiliation he is suspected of having committed in the summer of 1996 in London.

After reviewing the evidence gathered, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has instructed the Metropolitan Police – the London police – to indict the 70-year-old filmmaker, the BBC news portal wrote on Wednesday.

Weinstein was suspected of committing the two crimes between July 31 and August 31, 1996, and the alleged victim is a woman in her fifties, police said.

“CPS reminds everyone involved that the accused is being prosecuted and has a right to a fair trial,” said Rosemary Ainslie, head of CPS’s criminal department.

“It is extremely important,” CPS says, that there should be no online reporting, commenting, or information sharing that could affect the matter in any way. Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment scandal erupted in 2017. The fallen film mogul was accused of sexual abuse by more than 80 women, including well-known actresses – Gwyneth Paltrow, Salma Hayek and Uma Thurman, but she denied her guilt and claimed her sexual intercourse was always based on mutual consent.

Guilty in February 2020, the jury, the Oscar-winning producer, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for a crime committed in 2013 and one in 2006 – sexual violence and sexual coercion. One of her victims was an actress candidate and the other was a production assistant.
